Scottish-based apparel company SSEAMS aims to disrupt the marketplace and ‘bring home’ workwear clothing manufacturing through a new fashion partnership with Fife garment manufacturers, Seahawk Apparel.

The partners plan to take the heritage of traditional workwear manufacturing and bring it up-to-date to offer durable, premium apparel, sustainably produced in Scotland.

Diane Richardson, CEO of SSEAMS based in Stirling, said:  “Coming back to Scotland after many years working in international apparel brands, and with the consequences of post-covid 19 and Brexit, now is the right time to invest in our local manufacturers.

“Many SME apparel brands are coming to us looking for onshore manufacturing support and the demand is rising.”

The brands intend to create a new ecosystem supporting and encouraging brands, makers and mills to come together to create progressive and sustainable apparel solutions – Made in Scotland.

A step on from the traditional cut, make, trim only service, the facility will offer a full menu of services from materials sourcing to pattern making for the first time in more than a decade.

Diane Richardson, pictured, said: “Taking brand and production industry expertise from strong manufacturing locations worldwide, we’re confident about putting Scotland back on the map for product creation excellence.

“One of our primary goals is to work alongside brands who share our values for creating functional, durable garments that last the test of time. We also aim to support sectors from hospitality to tourism to develop their ‘modern workwear’ with us.”

The first SSEAMS X Seahawk workwear collection launched last month, designed and made in Scotland, showcasing British fabric mills and celebrating the craftsmanship of the Seahawk Apparel team.

Rob Sayles, Managing Director at Seahawk, said: “The team combined offers years of experience in product creation and supply chain management.

“If we can take learnings from other countries that have built a strong ecosystem around garment manufacturing and implement those in Scotland, we have a fantastic opportunity to build a sustainable future for a truly skilled workforce.

“We are excited to see what the future holds!”
